![]() Objects are key-value pairs with a colon between them and arrays are simply collections of objects separated by a comma. It is made up of only two data types – objects or arrays, or a combination of both. JSON is represented in a logical, easy-to-read universal data structure. If you have some important data stored in a JSON file that you would like to import into an Excel spreadsheet, you can easily do that with Excel’s ‘Get & Transform’ feature and you don’t even need any VBA code to import data from the local disk or from a web API. Let’s see how to convert/import a JSON file to an Excel file. JSON is a data transfer format that comes as a plain text file (like XML). For more information, see the section, About all those queries.JSON, short for JavaScript Object Notation, is an open standard file format (text-based) that is used for storing and transporting data. It is commonly used for transmitting data from a server to a web page (e.g., transmitting data from the server to the client, so it can be viewed on a web page, or vice versa). The query steps and columns created depend on which command you choose. Power Query automatically creates a query to consolidate the data from each file into a worksheet. Select Home, the arrow next to Remove Columns, and then select Remove Other Columns. Select all the columns that contain data values. You may want to clear the Use original column name as a prefix check box. The Value column is now a structured Record column. Select the Expand icon, and then select Expand to New rows. The Value column is a structured List column. There are additional commands discussed in the section About all those commands. Select one of the commands at the bottom of the dialog box, for example Combine > Combine & Transform. Verify that all the files you want are listed. The files you want to combine are still in the folder, but just not visible.Ī list of the files in the folder appears in the dialog box. ![]() ![]() ![]() Note The message “No items match your search” means Power Query has found a folder and it’s displayed in the Folder name box. Locate the folder containing the files you want to combine. Select Data > Get Data > From File > From Folder. ![]()
